Theresa Bennett evicted
Title
Theresa Bennett evicted
Description
"Theresa Bennett (in glasses) is not singular in her plight. Here she is shown with some of her six children, six grandchildren and an adopted child at a Cumberland Avenue address in Franklin Town Friday evening after their furniture was put out of a Jackson Road house. Miss Bennett told the Daily News Friday night that she had been paying rent for the Jackson Road premises from sewing and peddling but that she was given notice and later taken to court when she could not find a place where she and her family would be accepted. Visits to the Ministry of Housing have so far not fully borne fruit but Miss Bennett has expressed a preference to staying in East Kingston where she said she has lived since 1942. Fortunately for her the old house shown here is serving as a temporary shelter for her furniture but up to late yesterday afternoon her efforts had not produced anywhere to live in some permanence and the family was staying with friends at four different addresses."
