"Jamaica Railway Corporation has embarked on a programme of upgrading the rail track extending between Kingston and Montego Bay. Chief Civil Engineer Keith Foster said yesterday that he was not in a position to disclose actual figures, but that thousands of dollars are being spent on the project on which 200 men are at present being employed on the upgrading process.
The bulk of the work is re-ballasting the surface of the track and replacing sleepers where necessary. Mr. Foster said that this was the first time that the Jamaica Railway Corporation was attempting such an extensive programme.
