"Eighty-five year old Ashton Swaby (left) receiving a plaque from Mandeville West Indies College Dean of Women Miss B. White on Wednesday when he, along with Stanley Brooks were honoured for their contribution to the school and as two outstanding citizens of Mandeville.
Mr. Swaby attended Manchester High School and for a while worked in the Civil Service. For the past 26 years he has been as auctioneer and since 1948 has served as a Justice of the Peace.
He is a member of the Board of Governors of the Manchester Maternity Hospital and Nursing Home and member of the Mandeville Chamber of Commerce. Eighty-one year old Stanley Brooks is founder and proprietor of XLDA Enterprise in Mandeville. He has been a politician for many years and represented Mandeville; he retired from public service in 1940. He has served as Justice of the Peace. Chairman of the Manchester Parochial Board and Mayor of Mandeville.
Mr. Brooks has also been chairman of the Manchester Central PNP Organisation, life member of the PNP National Executive Council, chairman of the Manchester Library Committee and member of the Anti-TB League. He was awarded the Order of Distinction in 1974."
