Title

Alexandria Hospital laundry building

Description

"The Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Youth and Community Development, Princess Lawes (centre) cuts the ribbon to open the new Alexandria hospital laundry building on Monday, December 14. Facing her is Dr. Neville Gallimore, Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who gave the keynote address.

The laundry which was built at a cost of $45,000, was started as a community project by the Kiwanis Club of Discovery Bay and completed by the present Government when the project was just over 50 per cent complete.

Contributions came from Kaiser Jamaica Bauxite Company, Reynolds Jamaica Mines, the National Commercial Bank among others and public fund-raising.

The present laundry which houses a modern industrial washing machine replaces a small washing room with an archaic washing tub. According to Matron Hilda Moulton, these were mounted so high, that together with the heat of the washroom, was a source of undue discomfort to put it mildly. Picture shows Matron Moulton (extreme left), members of the Kiwanis Club, friends of the hospital and staffers."
