Gun Court Remand and Rehabilitation Centre on Camp Road in St. Andrew
Title
Gun Court Remand and Rehabilitation Centre on Camp Road in St. Andrew
Description
"Hunger strike: There was little or no activity on at the Gun Court Remand and Rehabilitation Centres on Camp Road in St. Andrew. Reason was that 445 inmates have been on a 'hunger strike' since Sunday. When the Daily News stopped by the Gun Court in the early afternoon, the assistant superintendent in charge would now divulge any information because of protocol and instead cautioned the News to contact the Commissioner of Corrections. However, when we called his office, the person at the Enquiries Desk said his office was not answering. At Camp Road, the inmates cried from their small cubicles: "We want freedom now. Freedom I-yah. We want to see the Minister [National Security and Justice] now." "Three day now, no man nuh eat food. Hunger strike." "Four hundred and 45 man and no man eat. We want freedom." "We want hear bout wi sentence I-yah." The inmates waved underwear from sticks through their cell windows."
