Thursday Fish Market Twickenham Park , The Research Centre

"Protein at its lowest cost is what fish farmers offer here at the weekly Twickenham Park Fish Research Centre, near Spanish Town. For as little as $2 per lb, up to 2,000 pounds of the high protein food is sold in the form of 'Tilapia Nilotica' also known as Silver Perch. Some say it is tastier, fresher and very attractive.
The market attracts roughly 600 buyers weekly, including higglers. It started over two years ago under the aegis of the Inland Fisheries Division of the Ministry of Agriculture.
Young Jamaicans were encouraged several years ago to venture into fish farming, they did, and when the market flourished the Agricultural Marketing Corporation (AMC) could not find enough outlets. Marketing experts of the Fisheries Division came up with the "Thursday Market" and since then it has been providing income for farmers and cheap protein for housewives especially."
