"The 16 beauty contestants in the 19764 Miss Jamaica Contest were allotted their sponsors in the smoke-filled gold draped Sheraton Ballroom on Saturday night.
Ammars Ltd., is sponsoring "Miss Trelawny - Adrianne Wakeland; Bata Shoe Company; Miss St. Elizabeth - Rosemarie Lyons; Chulani Jamaica Ltd., - Miss Clarendon, Sharon Oliver; Deans Furniture - Madge Holman of Kingston; Hughs Real Estates - Miss St. Catherine Angela Lindo; Kayson's Jewellers - Miss St. Thomas - Marcia Cruz; Kinnlois Jewellers Miss Hanover - Dianne Ricketts; Lanamans - Miss T. Mary - Barbara Mckenzie; Masters Supercentre - Miss Kingston Andrea Lyons; Petes, Miss St. Ann - Judy Dalrymple; Seven Star Bakery - Gillian King of Manchester; Scottie Jackson Jewellery Pauline Matadeen of St. Andrew; Shelly Ann's Ltd., M. Scarlett of St. James; Sheraton Hotel - Carol Grant of St. Andrew; Singer Sewing Machine Company, Carol Rhoden of Portland; and Workers Bank - Liz Swaby of Westmoreland.
The contestants were introduced by a platform-shoed, white harebaed Desmond Elliot and were introduced to Festival Commission guest Maxine Frankline.
The contestants paraded on fringed platform while in the background the "Bare Essentials" provide music."
