"Beaten: This is 17-year-old Carlton Phillips of 13 1/2 Bread Lane who reported to the Daily News yesterday that he had been beaten the night before by policemen in Denham Town. He said at about 11:30 pm. Sunday night he left the Salt Lane Community Centre and was talking with a woman at her home nearby when a District Constable travelling in a jeep with other policemen came on the scene and said "see the boy there who was running." Carlton Phillips said the policemen then proceeded to kick him and beat him. He has made a complaint to the Police Public Relations Department."
