Description
"Jamaica Chesire Village, local affiliate of Chesire Foundation Homes for the Sick, on Wednesday received a $12,500,000 boost from Scotiabank Jamaica Limited. This sum will defray the cost of one house out of twenty houses projected for the scheme. All plans and feasibility studies were done free of cost, by Wednesday Indies Home Contractors Limited, a division of the Matalon Group of Companies, and house will be built by this company, at cost.
Current inhabitants of the Mona Rehabilitation Centre who are crippled for life, are able to earn a living from specialised occupations, but still require day-to-day nursing will occupy the homes of the Village, which will be situated at Papine Estate. Work has already begun on the site.
The presentation was made at Scotiabank Jamaica, King Street, by Scotiabank General Manager Charles Henriques, (left) Jamaica Chesire Village, Chairman Alty Sasso (centre). Mr. Sasso in turn handed the cheque over to Sammy Henriques, Chairman of the fund-raising committee for Chesire Homes.
The committee has requested other banks in Jamaica, as well as the bauxite companies to help in putting up the maximum projected number of twenty homes. Scotiabank's donation has brought the number of homes to be financed to six."
