"The nation's third Order of Merit was yesterday conferred on Dr. Cicely Williams for her outstanding public services in the field of medicine. Governor General Florizel Glasspole did the honours at Kings House. Dr. Williams was lauded for her long and chequered involvement with the preventative and curative aspect of child care, and the many revolutionary changes she introduced into childcare.
A great lover of children, Dr. Williams was the first person to report the new disease Kwashiorkor which is a grave protein deficiency in infants diet.
