Percival Burge, amputee
Title
Percival Burge, amputee
Description
"A NEW LEG FOR PERCIVAL BURGE - and one made by his friend "Shoey" Betram Squire. Mr. Burge lost one of his legs two years ago but couldn't afford to buy an artificial one. Mr. Squire, shoemaker-saddler and upholsterer of Bath decided to make him one from cedar wood. Shoey, as Mr. Squire is popularly called, was making a leg for the third time. He has made tow before - the first one over 15 years ago when he built one for a close friend. Here Mr. Burge makes a point about the leg which Mr. Squire has been working on for about three months on and off. He is not quite finished with it because it needs a sponge for padding inside. Mr. Burge is all excited about it and told the Daily News he can hardly wait to get his new leg."
