Title

Our Lady of the Angels Roman Catholic

Description

"Tarnished Image: Hurricane Allen last August left a path of ruin across the island. For the most part South Coast regions escaped its fury although certain buildings still bear the scars.

One such is Our Lady of the Angels Roman Catholic Church on the Molynes Road, which had its beautiful 'stained glass' frontage smashed. Almost five months later, church members are still worshipping without their unique stained glass intact as there is hesitation as to how to deal with repairing it.

According to Jesuit Father Gabriel, who spoke with the Sunday Sun recently, church members would love to have it repaired but there is a basic fault in that the wide and fragile material is susceptible to a similar occurrence of high winds.

Church members are applying their minds to coming up with a solution which will preserve the beauty of the stained glass [unique as the colours and design are only visible from the inside of the church building] while strengthening it against high winds.

Our Lady of the Angels, already a landmark in our history, could do with some voluntary technical assistance and financial aid in putting right what Hurricane Allen made wrong."
