Hanover Parish Church, Lucea, Hanover
Title
Hanover Parish Church, Lucea, Hanover
Description
A view of the Hanover Parish Church. The Church was built in the year 1725 - two years after the parish of Hanover came in to being in the year 1723. Jamaica Archives' records reveal that the Church had its first baptism in 1725, first burial in 1727, and its first marriage in 1749. Early records also revealed that the Church was built on the foundations of an older, Catholic church built by the Spaniards. It was the only one in the island with a steeple. However, the steeple was badly cracked in the 1957 earthquake and was taken down. Hanover Parish Church has been declared a National Monument by the Jamaica National Heritage Trust.
