High Voltage rises to Supreme Champion at Smithfield

"Top honor went to this Charolais Aberdeen Angus crossbred yearling steer, High Voltage, at Britain's big agricultural event, The royal Smithfield show, held at Earls court Exhibition Center, London. The supreme champion, weighing 527 kg with a dairy gain of 1.32 kg, was reared by Scottish stockman Ian Roberts [pictured] and exhibited by Strathisla Farms, Alyth, Blairgowire, Perthshire, Scotland. Show judge James Royan reported: "I was looking for depth of flesh and length of carcass in an animal without excessive fat." He made his finial choice after judging a host of pure-breeds and crosses from all over Britain. In the crossbred categories 42 entries were sired by native Britain bulls and 166 entries were sired by European continental bulls. This year's five-day Smithfield Show attracted nearly 66,000 people, including many overseas visitors. The latest in agricultural tractors, machinery, suppliers and services were displayed by 380 exhibitors."
