"Consumer Exhibition: At the recent Exhibition mounted for Consumers Education Week at the National Arena, the Jamaica Association for the Deaf displayed furniture and craft items made by the handicapped. The work which was of very high quality, sought to demonstrate the disabled skills. The display also explained through posters and photographs the activity that the workers were involved the handicapped. The Jamaica Association for the Deaf is one of the Agencies of the Council for the Handicapped. This year 1981, the Secretariat for the IYDP has been involved in a public awareness programme to encourage a positive attitude towards the handicapped in our society. A Telethon "The Million Dollar Show" will be the final effort of the IYDP. The Show will be held on December 13, 1981 on JBC-TV. A target of one million dollars has been set which is to be used to build a work centre where aids and appliances for the handicapped will be made."
