Title

City of Kingston Credit Union

Description

"Chevannes honoured: The new offices of the City of Kingston Credit Union named in honour of the one of its founders and former manager, Paul Chevannes, has been officially opened and is now fully operational.
The building, acquired at a cost of just over $300,000, formerly housed the Wills Battery Company and the National Insurance Scheme at 66 Slipe Road.
The city of Kingston Credit Union has achieved a membership of 15,000 since it was registered as a co-op society in October, 1967. With assets in excess of $8 million, the credit union was forced to relocate from its Beechwood Avenue premises, to its present site in the heart of Cross Roads from which it can more effectively service the needs of a membership open to residents and workers of the City. The spacious and modern two-storey headquarters accommodates the staff of 23.
Mr. Benjamin Grant is Manager of the CU, while Mr. Chevannes has been assigned the portfolio of marketing and training.
In 1979, the City of Kingston Credit Union record a 34.9 per cent increase in membership over 1978 and shares rose by 82.1 per cent the same period.
The Credit Union's $5 million loan portfolio has met the needs of members in the areas of education, housing, transportation and business ventures.
Some 300 members, credit union leaders and well-wishers attended the opening ceremony and dedication of the new building, which was chaired by the President of the Board, Mr. Keith Campbell."
